Club Feroviar and Romanian Railway Industry Association, under the aegis of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) and of the Association of the European Railway Industry (UNIFE), organise on 9-10 October 2012 in Bucharest, the Railway Days – Railway Summit for the Wider Black Sea Area 2012, an event aimed to consolidate the dialogue between the authorities and the business environment on the launch of infrastructure projects, the allocation of investments in the programmes which facilitate freight and passenger flows in the region.
The concept of macro-regional strategy is every day more frequently used in the European public policies, a situation also encouraged by the success of the pilot strategy for the development of the Baltic Sea macro-region, to begin with, and then of the Danube Region strategy. The fact that there is no standard definition of the macro-region concept, which may refer to either groups of countries or administrative regions linked by certain common features and challenges, generates many discussions on the development of new strategies in the spirit of territorial cohesion. The main collaboration pillars would be the development of the railway transport system, facilitation of Europe-Asia trade and the opening of new wide markets.
The seventh edition of the summit will be attended by over 300 decision makers and drivers from the area of elaboration and implementation of investment policies on railway infrastructure development, railway freight and passenger transport, public transport in the Wider Black Sea Area (WBSA), as well as by institution and private investors. The dialogue partners will be represented by railway infrastructure managers, railway transport operators, companies in the railway industry, logistics, railway customers, port authorities and operators in over 50 countries.
With the main topic “Invest in Developing Europe. Invest in Developing Asia”, the panel sessions dedicated to infrastructure, freight and logistics and mass transportation launch discussion on building a long-term financial and political framework in the WBSA countries, the importance of developing the Iron Silk Road and the Danube Region, the opportunities created by intermodal logistics services and the development of ports and hinterland connections for railway transport for increasing the freight flow in the WBSA region. During the mass transportation session, participants will discuss on the vital importance of launching high-speed projects between Europe and Asia, the necessity of a legislative and financial framework for the organisation of an efficient and sustainable transport, as well as the implementation of projects for underground and tram networks for the purpose of stimulating metropolitan development and for increasing the share of public transport.
